Giving stuff away for free!

Well, the day has finally arrived. We are releasing the Prelude. This is an entire 10-12 hour advenure with completely unique characters, bespoke enemies, upgrades, equipment, and stories. Why release a Print and Play for free you ask? (You didn't ask. But asking myself easy questions is one of my most long standing crutches.)

Lifeship is a huge game. The Prelude, is a polished slice of that game. While we couldn't fit everything into the Prelude, we did manage to build in a staggering number of choices, outcomes, and unique situations. So, you're not going to use up your valuable ink on something without know anything about it. I get it. (Well, you might, but we just met so I am guessing.) So what comes in the file? (Again, you didn't ask, but now you are familiar with the crutch.)

The first thing is a set of instructions on how to use the file. We have tried VERY hard to make printing the game as painless as possible. Two players will print less than 4, you get the idea. The second thing is the Characters!

Aren't they very cool?

These characters exist ONLY in the Prelude, as well as their unique equipment. From the furious disgraced Soldier from the UK, to the chilled out Medic from Exmouth Australia, there is something for everyone.

You'll also find 4 classes, taken from the 6 starting classes for the main game: Soldier, Mechanic, Salvager, and Medic. (Chaplain and Scout not included)

He is not Senitent and does not love you.

For you Solo players out there, we have CEDALION who is our amazing AI friend, designed from the outset to make Solo mode fun, achievable, and most of all, simple to operate. You can read more about CEDALION in a previous post.

But the thing I am most excited about is the Stories. Oh so many stories for you to find your way through. Currently, the stories are delivered via an HTML file that lets you choose your path using links. It is simple, yet effective. In the main game, and potentially soon, stories will be delivered via our website and will track all of your choices so as to deliver bespoke stories and options to you. (This is also what the HTML file does, but the website will be prettier and BETTER!)

I'm not just talking about the mission stories...No, no, no. We have Encounters that happen between missions based on your decisions from the previous mission. We have DEATH stories for when you inevitably fall at the hands of a Xeno-Spider or Terraworm. We have Enemy Scan stories for when you get close enough to scan em, and multiple possible endings for every mission and encounter.

We have tested these missions extensively, and recently debuted them at Board Games by the Bay in Christchurch to much fanfare! Thanks for leaving me to die...the MULTIPLE people who did that. (Honestly, it was really funny and fun.)

So, refill that toner cartridge, grab a pile of slips from your collection, your local gamestore, or Temu, and join the Pal Squad.

You can download the file here.
